Learn “lean selling” from this kids card game
Trace and I have been playing a lot of Monopoly Deal.
It’s a 15-minute, card-based version of the famous family game.
If you’ve labored through hours-long sessions playing original Monopoly, you know how crazy a 15-minute version sounds.
And it is.
Yet it still ignites the competitiveness and familiarity associated with the original.
“Deal succeeds where Monopoly fails because it leans into the parts of the classic game that people remember, but erases the tedious moments between.” writes Dicebreaker.
How does it erase “tedious moments in between”?
Less pieces - Just 110 playing cards. No fake money, no board, no plastic green houses.
Less rules - Two sides of one card tell you everything you need to start.
Less setup - The bottom line of the rules states, “Start playing and all will become clear… WE PROMISE!”
And therein lies its simple genius. Monopoly Deal focuses entirely on one goal:
Get people playing — fast.
Such focus needs to find its way into your sales efforts.
Remind yourself of your one goal.
Then identify the leanest way to reach it.
Almost weekly, I distill my sales approach to three basic questions:
Who is best suited to buy my product right now?
What is the next step they need to take?
How can I help them take it?
Remember, Monopoly Deal delivers because it sheds pounds of clutter to deliver a great experience.
What pounds can you shed in your sales efforts?
The first time I played the game, I immediately liked its different approach.
And with a quick Amazon search, you see others do too.
The “classic” version shows around 3,000 reviews while the “Mega” version has 4,000.
A “Game of Thrones” edition jumps to almost 7,000.
But at an average rating of 4.8 out of 5, Deal features more than 30,000 reviews.
It’s because customers like stuff that gets to the point.
And we love stuff that gets there faster.
Be like Monopoly Deal.
Start playing and all will become clear… I promise.
Thank you for reading.
And remember, when you embrace practice, develop awareness, and align your efforts, you can rise above the deal.
