The incredible power of the “figure-it-out” muscle
I messed up.
Last week’s newsletter missed the mark.
“It was ok. I just don’t think you explained quotaless.” said Tracy.
She’s right. And if you want that, check the about page.
But dumping Student of Intention after 60 weeks took all I had.
Designing a new brand, spinning up a fresh domain, and publishing that email was brutal.
That’s how it is with new things. They’re scary and uncomfortable.
You think, “Where do I even start?” or “What if I get it wrong?”
Fear strangles you by the collar.
Only the incredible power of the “figure-it-out” muscle can pry open its grip.
What is the figure-it-out muscle?
It’s starting when you don’t have a clue what you’re going to do.
It’s typing a project’s first words on a Google Doc or using Canva to piece together a vision or dream.
It’s saying, “I don’t quite have this thing nailed, but I will.”
Like any muscle, it grows with repetition and sweat.
We’re all born with it. But many neglect theirs, weakening them by the day.
Others have built theirs to near-infinite strength.
Elon Musk has a figure-it-out muscle. His first startup was in media… then payments… then electric cars and spaceships.
My buddy Justin has one too. Only 3 years ago he burned out managing sales teams. Now he’s made millions helping thousands build their businesses.
I’ve seen junior sellers incubate 7-figure partnerships and interview candidates deliver masterful pitches for products they’ve never even seen.
These people weren’t the most qualified or the most prepared to do these things.
They just did.
They also missed, fumbled, got stuck and unstuck hundreds of times.
But after enough attempts, they figured it out.
In doing so, they learn the greatest lesson a professional can learn:
Everything can be figured out.
300+ Thanks for reading. Shoot me a note to let me know what you think about the change in direction. If you like it, please forward along to a few sales professionals you think might enjoy it.
Remember,
When we embrace practice, develop awareness, and align our efforts, we can rise above the deal.
We can live #quotaless.
